So, I am not sure if the engine of Steel Legions allows it. But tought it would give a new, maybe cool, landscape.
Shallow Water is not like the other water that is dark blue, shallow water should let you see the ground and be transparant. The effect of shallow water would be both graphical, would add a new dimension to the game and it would have great effects on your tank. it will be like very large holes, long around the lakes. What it does is, it slows you down, like trees, it decreases your range, like holes, but increases your defence and makes you harder to hit.
Now, it would be super cool if on medium/high graphics you would also get water particals going up when riding trough it.
As a maximum of steel legions, and I highely doubt that it is possible, maybe make shipyards/harbors on the shallow waters, small buildings/big buildings that make battleships, which you can transfer to, it could take over the role of player factory and you would have a second dimension of water in steel legions. From the water areas you can shoot tanks, do missions, fight on see against another battleship etc. Why not even add seemines. A great new dimension that might be hard to make but would probebly fit into the theme of oil and steel...
